Bittersweet

When we moved into our apartment complex almost two years ago, there were two kittens that had just been born. Despite our best efforts, we could get no where near these guys. They were just too scared! Their mother would let us love on her, hold her... the whole nine yards. Over time the boys became friendlier, but never got to the point where we could pick them up. One was brown, the other grey and some of our neighbors dubbed them "Honey" and "Silver". Silver being the friendlier of the two, was of course my favorite. You rarely saw one without the other, they were two peas in a pod. They belonged to everyone, but no one at the same time. We were able to trap and have them neutered, but we knew they would never be adoptable indoor cats. I thought Silver had potential, but could not stand the thought of seperating the brothers. Two weeks ago, Honey was ran over by a car in the main road next to our complex. Many of us were heart broken. Deciding that I did not want this fate for Silver, I was determined to find a better home for him. This morning he was dropped off for the first leg of his new journey. Barn Cats Inc is going to place him at a home south of Fort Worth, with another friendly male. Barn Cats specializes in placing stray/feral cats with homes that have barns, etc... places that the cats can "live" in and still keep their wilder side. Even now, I mourn the loss of these two guys... still knowing that they are both in a "better" place...
