So no "official" explanation here. This place we dubbed the Monkey Temple, as there were quiet a few monkeys living among the temple buildings. BUT, it should not be confused with the temple that is "officially" called the Monkey Temple. The road was long and winding to get up here.... with many cows and goats dispersed along the way. The temple itself appeared to just grow out of the rock and was very beautiful. Unfortunately, I'm totally enamored with bright colors so the women and their saris caught more of my attention. We tried to capture the serene feeling as well as the colors...
On the way in and out, we were bombarded by temple beggars. I was insistent on not giving them any money myself (which was easy as I had none to give!), but I did share with them a few granola bars, etc. They weren't impressed in the least and practically attached themselves to Babu (my father-in-law) as he was more than generous in the monetary manner... it became quiet humorous when those who had already been given something tried to sneak in again, but of course Babu in his typical light hearted manner called them out on it! They even tried to convince him that one of the infants needed his own coins. Needless to say, getting into the car and making our get away was not as easy as one would hope....
