Calcutta Botanic Gardens

When you go somewhere, do you buy a travel book, or do you wing it? Me, I want the book. I may not do what it says, but I want to know my options! Thus, the Botanic Gardens of Calcutta (Kolkata). Our day actually started out with the intention to visit the Victoria Memorial, but alas, it is closed on Mondays. So we headed to the gardens instead... intent to see the formidable Banyan Tree. Words really don't describe it- what appears to be a forest from afar, is actually one tree. You got that? ONE TREE. All the "trunks" are really aerial roots, try wrapping your mind around that. If you look in the last picture.... you will see me in the background attempting to contemplate the whole thing!
