Something profound....

To go along with our photos taken of images seen in the streets of Calcutta/Kolkata... I really wanted to say something profound. Something that would reach you, make you feel the overwhelming bombarding of the senses..... But I'm no writer my friends! So forgive me in my lacking attempt.... I will try. This country is something of a huge contradiction, which some will argue is not possible. Can it be peaceful, yet noisy? Can it be full of life, yet devoid of life? Can it be full of sweet intoxicating aromas and stench? Can it be colorful and vivid, yet gray? My Calcutta was all of these and more! There was a sense of calm amid the chaos that is an Indian street. There is life everywhere... in people, in animals, in plants... yet there is the overwhelming presence of the death of each as well. The wonderful aroma of Indian spices take over your senses, yet the stench of human waste is present as well. Beautiful saris in all colors of the rainbow captivate, while the starch gray of concrete is ever present. How is this possible? It just is....
